Mom’s Spaghetti and Meat Balls

Pretty good for not being Italian.

2 pounds ground beef

1 clove garlic, minced

1 onion, chopped

Cook onion and garlic in a little oil until soft.

Mix into ground beef along with:

2 cups bread crumbs

1 egg

seasoning: salt, pepper, oregano, basil, etc. to taste

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Form into balls and brown in a skillet with enough oil to keep them from sticking. Cook for about 5 minutes on one side, then carefully turn. Add oil as you turn the meatballs; continue until all sides are browned.

Sauce:

1 #2 size can tomatoes

2 small cans tomato paste

2 cups water (Pour some of the water into the empty tomato paste cans to get the rest of the paste)

1 T. sugar

1 bay leaf

salt, pepper and other seasonings to taste

Drain oil off meatballs, pour sauce over them. Cover and simmer one hour.
