Sugar Cookies
These were big as saucers and soft—very different from Nan’s sugar cookie recipe, but very good on their own. I remember eating them on the sun porch at Pappy’s house.
1 3/4 cup sugar pinch of salt
3/4 cup butter
Cream these ingredients together
Add 2 eggs, beaten
Mix 1 tsp. baking soda into 1/2 pint sour cream; add to butter mixture. Add lemon flavoring, a very little, as it will make the dough tough (I’d use 1/8 or1/4 tsp.)
Add 3 tsp. baking powder
Flour to make dough stiff enough to roll out (at least 3 cups; probably more).
Roll cookies out on a floured cloth. Sprinkle cookies with sugar. Bake in moderate(350) oven. Check after 5 minutes; they may take 10 minutes.
